God Bless This Home: Mixed-Media Canvas

by Crafts / DIY, Mixed-Media Art, Paper Crafting

This project was given to my very good friend, Annie, to decorate her new home. Do you know that person who always seems to think of you right when you need it most? She is that person for me and she will be truly missed as she begins her next chapter of life with her family as she moves to Northern California.

Things are a little bit up in the air about the move and she is still working on finding a home for them, so this canvas is a reminder that wherever they settle, there are people praying for their success and blessing.

Supplies:

Instructions:

Spread texture paste through dot stencil with palette knife. Let dry completely.

Paint entire canvas with blue paint. Be sure not to overscrub with the paint so that the texture paste doesn’t smudge.

When blue paint is completely dry, brush entire canvas with black watercolor, allowing it to pool up in the crevices. This creates the lovely dimensional distressing for the background.

Prime chipboard houses with gesso, then paint with white acrylic paint.

Paint the tops of the houses with navy, grey, and red paints.

Add details to the houses with China marker.

Distress houses with sand paper, especially edges.

Glue with strong adhesive to the bottom of the canvas.

Use a computer to print “God Bless This Home” text. Cut out and glue to canvas. Outline with a few scribbles of the Copic Gasenfude pen.

Even Mr. Darcy decided to help make some art! Can you see where he decided to stick his face in the red paint? #artistproblems
