Exciting News–I’m getting a tiny house! I just put down the design deposit for my tiny pink dream house and I couldn’t be more excited.

Bless This Tiny House DIY Mixed-Media CanvasThis project is my way of celebrating this momentous occasion. Everyone seems to have a Home Sweet Home or God Bless This Home sign in their living room, but I wanted to make one that celebrated the tiny home that I will be living in soon.

Supplies:

  • 6×6 gesso board
  • Collage papers – antique book pages, sheet music, etc.
  • Alphabet stamps
  • Susan Pagnucci Neighborhood Stamps
  • Permanent inkpad
  • Stabilo All Marking Pencil
  • Pink acrylic paint (Dina Wakley Media)
  • Taupe acrylic paint (Dina Wakley Media)
  • Ancient gold acrylic paint (Dina Wakley Media)
  • Fuchsia acrylic paint (Dina Wakley Media)
  • Paper towels

Bless This Tiny Home DIY Mixed-Media Canvas Project Directions:

Collage background with different book pages, music sheets, and collage papers. Adhere with gel medium to the canvas and seal the top of each paper with a layer of gel medium. Let dry completely.

Stamp house and tree with permanent ink. Allow to dry or blast with a heat gun for a few seconds to ensure that the ink doesn’t smear in the next step. Note: Don’t worry about how the stamped image turns out. The stamps provide a guide to your picture and you will be covering all of the stamped images.

Paint over stamped image with pink paint, being sure to leave plenty of different paint smudges and streaks. The messier, the better!

Paint tree with layers of taupe paint and streaks of pink, gold and fuchsia.

Water down some of the pink paint and brush around the edges of the canvas to provide some definition.

Stamp the outline of the house on top of your painted shape. Remember, allow it to be a guide for your work, rather than trying to stamp a perfect image.

Using the alphabet stamps, add your sentiment, “Bless This Tiny Home,” to your canvas.

Outline everything with the Stabilo All Marking Pencil. Draw in the details of the house and a few marks to make the tree look more messy. Scribble the edges of the canvas with Stabilo pencil and outline each letter.

Using a little bit of water and a thin paint brush, blend the outside edges of the canvas and dab away excess with a paper towel. Blend some of the parts of the house and dab with paper towel to keep the black from getting too heavy. Use the dirty paper towels to blot the rest of the canvas and add some grungy streaks to the blank parts of the canvas.
